Xocolat
Academic Project, 2020
Xocolat is a multi-use retail space consisting of a chocolate store and factory. It is located in Los Angeles, California. The concept is inspired by ancient Mayan Temples. Chocolate was first consumed by Olmec, Mayan and Aztec civilizations. It’s effects on ancient civilizations were so powerful, they believed it was a mystical and spiritual food. It was believed to be the food of the gods. The goal of Xocolat is to create a place that is characterized by the sense of mythical, the mysterious discovery and the transition to another reality. It recreates a contemporary mystery and mystic experience for visitors.
Branding
The branding is a fun take on ancient Mayan hieroglyphs and art. The font used (Mucha Wo Minagara) reflects the forms of the logo. Finally, the colors are inspired by the colors of the cacao bean as it ripens.
